"Damn That Dj Made My Day" 9-15-01
Review by Neocrisis (Chad B)
I have to say that this party was nothing short of kick-ass. This was my first NYC Entertainment party, mostly because of the majority of their party's centering around Tucson and the nearby desert.

Anyway, I arrived at the Nile in Mesa at around 11:40 PM. Security was thourogh in their searches and overall friendly to me and my friend. That made thing start off right, mostly because I feel safer at events when searches are taking place. Anyway, got in the door and handed my ticket to the doorman. The bass was already throbbing in my chest and i could hear some pumpin tunes. As i walked through the double doors i was a energetic crowed and heard the famous G.O.D soundsystem (Yorkville) blasting out the music. The dj stage was set up with a american flag under the four techniques 1200 turntabels. There were already alot of people there and the overall vibe seemed to be positive. Also, to my pleasure, the ratio of sober people to people on certain illiegal substances was much higher :) . Not that I have a problem with responsible drug usage in moderation, but I have been to several parties that were "dead" mostly beacause of 90% of people were sitting on the ground rolling their asses of. I will go into this later, but for now i shall continue with my review :) ! Anyway, when I got there Citrik and Nth (paul) were tag teaming a nice variety of trance. Everyone cheered as their set came to a climax along with synchronized lights and special effects (courteousy of nyc :) )
Next to come up was Castor and DFT, who, at first, had trouble with their crossfaders but went on to put on a AWESOME Dark Drum N Bass/Jungle set. They really moved the croud and got me dancing my ass off. My favortie highlights of their set was their dope scratching the track that had ak1200 style jungle with a mc in the background that repeated "theres a war goin on outside" which was rather ironic since we will probly be goin to war soon :( .
Next up for teams was Double Trouble (Gino and Slippe) who came right off with the Croud rocking NRG. Slippe clapped his hands, danced, and got the croud pumped up while gino's steadfast concentration meshed their tracks in beautifully. Slippe scratched along to their tracks at 160+ bpm :evil ! Overall, I enjoyed their set the most of all the acts I saw and heard saturday night err sunday morning hehe! As their set came to a close, to everyones suprise they both took their headphones off and played "Proud to be an American" in its origional form. As the song played everyone one was silent and rushed the stage. People started holding up their lighters and everyone sang along. I almost began to cry as I remembered all of those that were tragically killed on monday, september 11, 2001.
Almost everyone was silent after the song finished, but when Jae Van and Matt Dunn appeared the croud exploded in to cheering. Jae Van and Matt came on strong with Hard NRG/Hard acid trance that the croud exploded to. About 15 minutes into their set, they began mixing in a track that pushed the crowed even higher. Almost everyone jumped up and down in synchronicity as bass line shook the foundation of the nile. At that point, I think the crowd had come to a high for the night. Of course, I dont know what Richard Humpty Vissions set was like beacause i had to leave at 1:30. Ohh well, I had a great time, and got to see some great talent:)

Going further into the influence drugs have on our scene.......
Where should I start? Hmmmmmm.......
Well, to start off, I should explain that I am a active member of RaveSober, and involved with dancesafe.org . It dissapoints me when I see fellow teenagers rolling and sniffng vicks chest rub to get high. I feel sorry thats other young adult feel like they need to do drugs when they go raving, or worse, go raving just to do drugs. I believe in moderate, responsible drug use, but it makes me mad when I talk to people that say that they only go to eat ecstacy or do other drugs. Also, I have seen the same people, time and time again,at places like the nile and Icehouse. I guess theres nothing I can do, but I hope that people who dont appreciate electronic music just stay home to do their drugs from now on. Anyway PLUR, have fun, and be safe
